Status Quo

Gail on Jul-16-2009

Some days it just seems too hard to come up with a post; and I haven’t posted in so long it looks like that’s most days I guess! Plus, I stay on facebook playing games that seem to suck me in. It’s easier to come up with a line or two for fb status rather than an entire post, so I’ll post a few together for today.

my name…..
*new white shirt plus tomato sauce for meatballs, not good!

*audio books for car trips are a very good thing!

*Wicked was awesome! I loved it

*when does exercise ever become fun?

*I should be old enough to not break out on my face! What is up with that?

*enjoyed my first shopping trip to Ikea!

“Who’s afraid of the big bad wolf”

Gail on May-28-2009

When my kids were little they belonged to something called The Best Book Club Ever; every month we got quite a few of these square paperback books. They loved them getting them and read them often at bedtime. Hubby and I read our fair share of them out loud too. Katelyn and Sam visited recently and one day Katelyn picked one out specifically that she wanted me to read to her before she went to sleep. It was called The Wolf and the Seven Kids, not a book I remembered at all. The story was about a mother goat with 7 children; she left them at home one day to go get food at the market but told them not to open the door so the wolf wouldn’t get them. But of course when the wolf came calling the kids were eventually tricked into opening the door. The seven kid goats all hid but the wolf found and ate 6 of them! The mom came home to find one baby goat still hiding so they went to the woods looking for the wolf. They found him sleeping but his stomach was moving around. So she got her sewing kit to cut his stomach open, pulled out her kids, then they put rocks back in his stomach and sewed him back up! When he woke up, the wolf went to the river for a drink but was so heavy he fell in and drowned.
This is a kid’s book?!! I must have read this to my kids but I don’t really remember it. Has it been too long ago? Did having 4 kids fry my brain? Did I pay attention to what they were doing, did I read them anything and never gave it a second thought? Am I a bad parent?
The more I read this one to Katelyn, the more uncomfortable I got; I was unsure whether to sort of change it up as I went along or read it like it was. She didn’t seem to have a problem with it but I felt like a heel for reading it to her! Later when I looked it up, I found it was based on a Grimm’s fairy tale and when I think about it, those all seem to have some of those same characteristics about them. Most kids know those stories and do ok I guess; Ava Clair and Grayson went through a phase of wanting me to tell them the Three Little Pigs story every time I saw them.

I discreetly put the book away and later we did stuff like this:

I hope I didn’t ruin my kids or her reading her that book! I might need to read the other books around here and decide whether to keep them or toss them.
Tents in the dining room, chasing the train, popsicles outside, going to the park…..all that makes up for reading a story like that doesn’t it? I sure hope so!

“Does anybody really know what time it is”

Gail on Mar-16-2009

* Daylight saving time, you are no good to me right now. I don’t like waking up in the dark because it makes me feel like I didn’t sleep long enough! I was able to sleep a little late last week, nice…. and then today it was back to waking up naturally around 6ish, what time is that really? TOO early!

* No sun for six long days, too long….time for the sun!

* Spring break but I have no kids at home and thus no trip planned…too much time on my hands?

* But spring break means March Madness….time for great basketball games and YAY for Miss. State winning the SEC and going to the big dance! The first game is a tough one though. Boo for no Survivor this week.

* I’m hoping for warmer weather this week.

* Somehow hubby got talked into doing a consumer survey over the weekend, they’ll pay this week when we turn it back in. Lo and behold it’s like a 100 page book! I don’t think it’s enough money for the time it’s taking to fill in.

* I don’t like the new facebook look!

A few things on tap for this week…….
haircut, probably past time
24 watching party tonight, I’m bringing bread
sewing, a few burp cloths and maybe something else
Happy Monday!

does anybody really know what time it is?
does anybody really care, about time?

“Still haven’t found what I’m looking for”

Gail on Feb-26-2009

In three years of sometimes sporadic blogging I’ve never really had anyone visit my blog by doing some random or odd google search. There’s been just a handful of people that have found me by googling “gail”……nothing unusual there since that would be my name. But a couple of weeks ago I noticed that there had been some different searches that led people here; and may I just say that whatever it is you’re looking for, you still probably won’t find it here!

Here’s a few of my favorite ones:

1. toothbrush song by gail….I SO wish I had written a song but maybe not about toothbrushes!
2. sonic sweetheart blast recipe….please share that recipe because I’d like to have it
3. a math song for greater than…..I do NOT do math and don’t even want to think about it
4. sewing cowboy dress up….Git along little dogies!
5. dexpak directions….because I must play a doctor on tv
6. superman sunday school lessons…….THAT should be a fun class!
7. what high school did erynn mangum go to…..well I believe I can guarantee it wasn’t in Mississippi!
8. can drinking more water help with giant papillary conjunctivitis…..my tv dr gig didn’t teach me this either but I’m curious to know if that works
9. a song to memorize the bones in the body…..Oh my goodness, I would like to hear that song!
10. he wrote me a letter……I got that about 2 dozen times last week during Idol so it must have been something sung on the show. Maybe I should rethink using songs? (nah, I’m probably “In too deep”)

Nope, I still don’t think you’ve found what you’re looking for here at my place; but it was good for a few laughs for me!

“Back in the high life again”

Gail on Feb-4-2009

My blog is BACK, and so is my sis’s! Our blogs are kept on their website/server at home and the computer broke down a few weeks ago. Before that, my laptop died right around Christmas so I’ve not been around much lately. My brother in law has worked on their computers til he’s sick of it I’m sure….those kinds of problems are never fun.
I got my laptop back a few weeks ago and it was still a black screen just like when I sent it for repairs! That was mildly annoying. They had to send us a new hard drive to install ourselves after they messed up and installed a keyboard instead. So for now my laptop is working and I’m trying to get everything put back on it and get my pictures burned/saved so I don’t get in trouble again!
We’ve just been busy with everyday things…..work, watched some movies, had 2 of the grandkids over, had some get togethers with friends, reading, playing and various other appointments. Hubby has his cast off now and is starting therapy but has been told it could be 9 months or so before his bones are back to what they were before.
I’m glad to be back up and running again, thanks to Tim! I hope to get my google reader whittled down over the next couple of days and will visit as soon as I can!

“8-9-10-11 I’m just gonna keep on counting”

Gail on Jan-16-2009

A random list and NO, there won’t be that many things but I can’t get that silly song out of my head!

1. After all the birthdays we had in our family last month, we’ve had two more this week! My oldest son’s birthday was 2 days ago; they live in Houston and we talked to them on the phone for a while. Haven’t seen them since Thanksgiving and I miss them, especially now that my webcam is gone with the laptop. And Katelyn turned three! I think I’m going to a little party for her this weekend so that should be entertaining.
2. I decided to participate in something over at the living proof ministries blog (Beth Moore) for this year….scripture memorization, 2 verses a month on the first and fifteenth. I was a little late jumping in after the first but it’s still not too late if you’d like to join in. You can go to the main page and there will be a link to the original post with some explanation. You’ll be able to find the post from this week and sign up with a verse you want to memorize. I believe this is the post it links to. Let me know if you’re joining in.
3. I have become waaaay too addicted to another game online, spider solitaire! I used to see Liz playing it at home but that was when I had my laptop with other games with other stuff to do. Without my laptop and an old computer that’s hard to deal with I’ve now discovered spider solitaire and I can’t quit playing, must do something else!
4. As cold as it is here, I can’t imagine how bad it must be everywhere else…..we aren’t used to the teens in the deep south!

I hope you have a great Friday and fun weekend!

“O Christmas Tree”

Gail on Dec-15-2008

How can it be this close to Christmas! It seems like I should have more things done by now. There is a sunday school party at my house tomorrow night, for 25 or so people…..my house so does not look like having people over right now! Cards need to be finished, wrapping done, and a few more things bought.
I had a sweet visitor for about five days; she arranged and rearranged the Christmas tree a few times! The lights on my tree have a switch to turn on so they’ll play music… she loved it and was easily entertained with the lights!
I snapped this right before church yesterday, she looks good with my tree!

Her parents were out of town on a little trip; I only had Katelyn this time and not Sam….I missed him. She went home late yesterday afternoon and for some reason I’m tired now! But I’ve got to start moving at warp speed if I’m going to get through with everything!

“Sleigh bells ring, are you listening”

Gail on Dec-9-2008

It has been a busy week here for me….what about for you? Shopping and decorating are on the list now. Hubby got a cast on his arm/wrist and has had it x-rayed again to make sure it’s still in line (it is). It has to stay on at least 3 more weeks; doing things one-handed will be old by then. I’ve got a bad cold/sinus thing that is making me feel miserable. We also took our youngest to get laser eye surgery on Friday. He was next in line when they came and told us the laser had hesitated on the last patient as they were making the cut on the eye, yikes! So they decided to cancel everyone else for the day and reschedule after the first. I know he was ready to have his eyes fixed but we were thankful that they were cautious! We went out of town on Sunday for a yearly family party with hubby’s close friends from childhood. I’m copping out a bit today by posting a few pics!

“I get by with a little help from my friends”

Gail on Nov-21-2008

I have a couple of things to ask and hope I can get some help from my friends!

1. There are some couples that we like to give gifts to as a couple but I always struggle with what to do…….I’ve done food type things and am looking for something else or slightly different. So what good ideas do you have for gifts to give a couple! What have you given in the past?

2. I’ve seen that bath and body has 2 holiday scents that sound nice….vanilla bean and twisted peppermint. Anyone tried them both and how do you like them? I think I’m more interested in the lotions unless you convince me something else is good! I have a coupon that I want to use and not let it expire.

3. Apparently a candle was waaaay too close to a bathroom wall last night during a function that was going on at my house. By the time I found it there was soot on the wall and oh my gosh, that stuff spreads if you try to clean it! What is the trick to get it off? Or is repainting the only option?!!
ugh, I’m thinking I might have to wait until after Thanksgiving at my house with 17 people to do any major fix on it!

Ok, hit me with your great ideas and advice!
And do have a terrific weekend……later, friends. :)

“Big girls don’t cry”

Gail on Nov-19-2008

If it was me, I would be crying because I don’t like critters of any sort! But Katelyn doesn’t seem to mind them, in fact she seems to love playing with them. I’ve not quite understood this interest she has…we’ve dug up worms for her, I’ve seen her chase bugs around and I believe she would hold just about anything. Maybe I’ve just forgotten what it’s like to be little or to have little ones around.
I took this picture recently when I was visiting for Sam’s birthday but to me it’s just icky in about 22 different ways!

No crying for her, just playing with that lizard. Get her a toy is what I say!
To each his own….I’m thinking these grandbabies will probably be better off than me when they’re grown!

“brown paper packages tied up with string”

Gail on Nov-14-2008

these are a few of my favorite…”

Just a couple of my favorite pictures I took this week….

Oh how I did not need to see my daughter come home with this package last night! She went to Alabama yesterday to meet with her professor about her class/reading for this semester. I guess she passed by this place and bought some to bring back. I shouldn’t have…but yes, I have sampled one or two!

A few redbirds/cardinals have found their way back to my back yard feeder and for some silly reason, that makes me very happy. I love to watch them! There are plenty of sparrows and other birds but I like the cardinals best.

And this picture will mean nothing to anyone but me. I SO should have taken a before shot but just never thought about it. There are two doors at the bottom of the entertainment center and everyone just opened it up and tossed in videos, stuff or whatever; there was no organization at all. Liz pulled everything out and lo and behold, there were two black shelves sitting on the bottom completely covered up by tapes! Who knew! We put both shelves in so now it’s more like 4 sections. Then we threw away a box of about 50 tapes of old tv shows, nothing we wanted! There’s still a big box of movies and other tapes we might take somewhere and donate. These are a few bought things we’re keeping for the time being and a lot of home movie tapes we hope to get put on dvd one day. But this just makes me happy to see it all neat!

I’m glad it’s Friday. Not sure what we’re doing this weekend but I might need to plug away on my list a bit more. I hope to catch up on blog reading too!
Got any fun weekend plans?

“Cause my baby just wrote me a letter”

Gail on Nov-5-2008

We have a wide framed opening between our den and kitchen/breakfast room instead of a door that closes. A few years ago I started putting up colored sticky notes on the side of it to remind myself of things; like a phone call to make or errands to run. I guess I picked this particular spot because it was a place I’m in every day and I would see it on the way out the car. Don will use it occasionally too, taping up a note or mail that he wants me to see. He tends to hang his stuff during the night because for some reason he’ll wake up at the crack of midnight to pay bills or do paperwork.
I think maybe he’s moved on from notes/letters to other things because this was the site that greeted me the other morning………

Argh, ahoy there matey……follow the yellow brick road!

Gail on Nov-3-2008

This weekend our kids/grandkids in Texas sent us some pictures from their Halloween fun! The little ones looked like they had a good time.

There was Jack Sparrow………..savvy?

A pretty Dorothy……there’s no place like home.

And a sweet baby owl!

I wonder if he’s saying…… “Stop blowing holes in my ship!”

I guess you better not mess with Captain Jack Sparrow!

We had some trick or treaters and gave out our candy in about an hour’s time. Then we watched a movie and hung around the rest of the weekend. How was your Halloween?

“Crazy little thing called love”

Gail on Oct-30-2008

I’ve been fortunate to have Liz around here helping me clean out closets, attics, etc. We’ve tossed quite a bit of stuff, carted some off to give away and still have some rooms to go yet. It’s sort of random but the place I’ve finished first is my bathroom closet. The really crazy thing is, I’m in love with one of the containers we used to organize with. Simple little plastic storage drawers; why oh why did it take me this long to discover them!
I should have taken some pictures before I started……….

“I see the moon”

Gail on Oct-7-2008

and the moon sees me

I liked the moon I saw when I went outside the other night right before dark. I sorta liked the way it peeked in between two trees way off in the distance. You could see it better if I had mad photography skillz and some kind of wicked awesome new camera! But alas, I have neither. Occasionally I remember to look at everyday things and really see them. Just a shot I sorta liked……

And I think it reminded me of that little song I used to sing to my kiddies when they were young!
What do you see at your house today?

the moon sees somebody I’d like to see
