Shortly before we left for vacation, I decided to buy an umbrella stroller to take on the trip. Kathryn was bringing a car seat on the plane with her but no other equipment so I thought a stroller might be good. We could stroll around or just use it to sit Katelyn in at the pool. I would gate check it, take it through the Houston airport and then get it off at Denver. I would have a stroller to use at home when we got back and it didn’t cost too much either. Plus, it folded up very compactly & wouldn’t take up a lot of room in the small rental car we would have; yeah that all seemed like a very good idea!

I couldn’t have been more wrong……..

I probably would! Because I seem to save most anything; I think I have that “saving” gene, or is it called being a packrat, ouch! I have way too many things I’ve saved over the years, thinking I might use/need it one day but I am working on trying to get over it and be better about it but it is a very SLOW process. Last week I worked for a day or so on a drawer in my kitchen, the recipe drawer, that was way out of control according to Elizabeth! It was to the point of when looking for a recipe, I’d thumb through tons of pieces of loose paper, note cards, newspaper clippings etc. and still sometimes not find what I was looking for so,

For the few people that read my blog, you probably know that Elizabeth is the one of my children that does NOT like fish at all. Doesn’t want to eat it, look at it or talk about it……she will eat shrimp and maybe some other shellfish which I keep telling her aren’t as good for her as the salmon that we eat frequently. And what’s even more strange, to her friends as well as to us, she will eat fish sandwiches from McDonald’s! Which aren’t really fish and are really no good for you! But when the guys caught a lot of trout up in the Colorado mountains on our vacation, we decided to cook them one night and she agreed to try a bite of it. We even got pictures!

David did fire away……..on the last night of our vacation there was a sort of lightning storm at dusk. It rained every evening that we were there, mostly just a short sprinkle but sometimes more. This last night we were waiting around the lodge for an ice cream party when it started lightning. David wanted my camera to take pictures with; Don told him that none of our cameras would be able to catch it because of the delay and the lightning just happens too fast, etc. But that didn’t deter him and he must have taken at least 100, plus he deleted a good many of them and kept going. I finally told him to leave them on there and see what we got when we put them on the computer. Then he switched over to the video mode on the camera and did quite a few videos of it as well. We had to leave early that Saturday morning to drive back to Denver for our flight home, before daylight. So in the car he asked for the camera again and must have shot at least another 100 pics out the car windows! Some of them actually turned out pretty fair……so I thought I’d do a post about David and his photos! Click below if you want to see them:

Hopefully this will be the last part! After all the hiking, swimming and horseback riding, it was decided we’d go whitewater rafting one day, on Thursday. I sort of wanted to go since everyone else was going but the ranch tried & tried to find another babysitter but no one was available so I stayed with Katelyn that day. Don and the kids went and were gone for most of an afternoon on this adventure. Kathryn, Don and the guide all got thrown from the raft into the cold water. That’s why you don’t take cameras on rafting trips I think! However they bought the photo that was taken of them, so click below for it and other pics.

Thirteen Things about Our Vacation Last Week

1. We went to a dude ranch in Colorado…been to Colorado but never a ranch!
2. Did lots of hiking & went also to the top of the Continental Divide.
3. Rode horses on a 6 mile trail ride to a lunch cookout.
4. White water rafting.
5. The guys hiked up to a lake (6 miles roundtrip) to fish for trout.
6. Cooked and ate the trout for dinner…very good!
7. Golfing (the girls drove the carts!)
8. Weather was cool……..felt wonderful after 100 degree heat & humidity in the South!
9. Heated pool & hot tub…nice for aching muscles.
10. Square dancing one night, but no one could get into it much.
11. Cell phones wouldn’t work…..the kids found hills to climb so they could call friends!
12. No tv’s, vcr’s or internet! Played games & read.
13. Went to the worship service on the ranch, with nice mountain views out the windows.

Everyone had fun…….now trying to get back into a routine again.

Don, Trent with Grayson, Gail, David & Liz We did several hikes while on vacation in Colorado and on that Monday afternoon after our wrangler’s breakfast hike, we took a trip with a group from the ranch up to a place called Cottonwood Pass. We drove about 25 miles away up to about 12,000 feet for snowsliding on a patch of snow still there and some of us hiked up even higher to the top of the Continental Divide. You can’t quite tell from this picture but you had to go up on one of the 2 trails behind us to reach the patch of snow. Trent packed one of the slides on his back for he and Grayson to slide on.

A few weeks ago we finally decided what we’d do for vacation……Colorado isn’t new to us but we went to a dude ranch, a very new experience for us! It’s a christian guest ranch and was a really nice place to go; I think everyone had fun. We flew out on Saturday a week ago (Don, David, Liz and me) and met up with the rest in Denver…..Kathryn, Jeremy & Katelyn landed about a half hour before us and Trent & Grayson landed a few minutes after us (Shanna & Ava Clair couldn’t come ). It took about 3 hours to get to the ranch plus a stop for hamburgers and groceries but we made it just in time for an orientation meeting they have to let you know about their activities.
I’ll try to summarize on the extended page, but it will probably be long because we did so much while gone!

I finished some burp cloths a week or two ago for a friend’s son whose first baby was about to be born. They turned out really cute I thought and someone had asked me to post a picture, so I don’t have to be encouraged too much to do that! I used a couple of new designs I had and was pleased with how they look. The new baby arrived last week and maybe he’ll be a cowboy someday!

On Saturday we helped Elizabeth move to Tuscaloosa where she will start grad school in a few weeks. She’ll actually be back home in a few days to finish up some things here and to go on vacation with us! She put all her things in a storage locker last month so we had to drive to Clinton first, with a borrowed trailer, load up there and then drive to Alabama. I told her when she moves again, she’d have to rent something bigger because we almost didn’t get everything in!

I’ve been reading about this bloggy tour of homes over at boomama’s place. You can get lots more tours there! Or see her main page.
It looked like so much fun to do and to see everyone’s homes so I decided to join in………very late in the day but here goes.

Some photos of my home sweet home. Up first is the front door.

This is our den…..we spend most of our time here watching tv, playing games, reading, hanging out, etc.
It’s good for napping too……posted another picture a while back about that!

This is our kitchen……..I love it and spend a good bit of my time here cooking and hanging out. (I noticed after I posted all this that the wall color doesn’t show up very good..it’s kind of a pale green color. Must have been too much light in there today)

Next up is where I blog from, computer in our office, which is really a spare bedroom that we use as a multipurpose room.

Click below for a couple more shots:
