I saw this meme at Lauren’s and Karen’s last night, missed getting to play so I knew I had to play along by posting one of my own! I’m having a hard time picking just 10 movies though.

Here are the rules:

1. Pick 10 of your favorite movies.
2. Go to IMDb and find a quote from each movie.
3. Post them here for everyone to guess (if you know them all, please don’t guess every one).
4. Strike it out when someone guesses correctly, and put who guessed it and the movie.
5. No Googling or IMDb-ing. That’s cheating, and that’s no fun!

Here are my quotes:

1. “Oh Dexter you’re not doing it just to soften the blow?”

Here’s another from this movie: I’ve made a terrible fool of myself – which isn’t unusual. And my fiancee, my fiancee that was, that is, he thinks we’d better call it a day. And I quite agree with him.
The Philadelphia Story, first guessed by Tammy

*2. “What did you do, wake up this morning and say, “Today, I’m going to ruin a man’s life?”
and…….. Joanie, you are now a world-class hopeless romantic.
and………….. Now I ain’t cheap, but I can be had.
(I didn’t realize when I first picked this movie that so many of the quotes had bad language and I’m not using those! Sometimes I forget about that when I haven’t watched the movie in a while!)

3. “What is it you want, Mary? What do you want?”

It’s a Wonderful Life, first guessed by Debi

4. “Kid, there’s something I ought to tell you. I never shot anybody before.”

Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, first guessed by Lynne

5. “You brought music back into the house. I had forgotten.”

The Sound of Music, first guessed by Lauren

6. “Then let us be rid of it… once and for all. Come on, _______ I can’t carry it for you… but I can carry you.”

Lord of the Rings Return of the King, first guessed by Stacy

7. “How can you forgive this guy for standing you up and not forgive me for this tiny little thing like putting you out of business.”

You’ve Got Mail, first guessed by Lauren

8. “I will find you. No matter how long it takes, no matter how far, I will find you.”
Last of the Mohicans, first guessed by Stacy (and where were you on this one LIz, I know you SO know this one!)

9. “Who was that shape in the shadows? Whose is that face in the mask?”
Phantom of the Opera, first guessed by Lauren

10. “As you wish.”
The Princess Bride, first guessed by Stacy

Have fun! Leave your guesses in the comments (no looking up!) and I’ll be back later to update as they are guessed.
Update: #2 was probably from the 80’s
Oooh, I also forgot to see if anyone recognized what movie the title is from!

  1. Debi Says:

Well gosh, but don’t I feel stupid! I don’t KNOW a single one. But I think #3 might be It’s a Wonderful Life.

    What a fun meme, though!

  2. Lauren@Baseballs&Bows Says:

This is so fun! I am glad you played along.

I am pretty sure about the first two, but the third is a guess:

    5. The Sound of Music
    7. You’ve Got Mail
    9. Phantom of the Opera

I can’t wait to read the answers!

  3. Lynne Says:

Darn – Lauren guessed #9 – Phantom. Could #4 be Unforgiven with Clint Eastwood?

  4. annie Says:

The ones I knew (or thought I might know…) have already been guessed!

  5. Stacy Says:

OK, I know the Sound of Music and You’ve Got Mail ones, as those are two of my most favorite movies. How about these:

    6. Lord of the Rings, probably Return of the King, Sam saying to Frodo

    8. Last of the Mohicans, Daniel Day Lewis telling the girl

    10. Westley, in Princess Bride

    Any of those right?

  6. Lynne Says:

OK – #4 – Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid – one of my favorite movies!

There was a scene in Unforgiven that was similar:

The Schofield Kid: I ain’t never killed no one before that, Will.
Will Munny: Well, you sure killed the hell outta that guy.
The Schofield Kid: That was the first one… first one I ever killed. You know how I said I shot five men? It weren’t true. That Mexican that come at me with a knife, I just busted his leg with a shovel. I didn’t kill him or nothing, neither.

  7. Stacy (the other one) Says:

Fun, fun. I need to do this one day when my brain is working better…my allergies are being a bother tonight.

  8. Karen Says:

The few I know are already taken. As for the two that are left. . . all I can tell you is they’re not from John Wayne movies!

  9. Tammy Says:

I know, I know! I know that first one, and I got it right away!
    The Philadelphia Story!!!

You know I am a classic movie buff…and I knew some of the other ones, too…It’s a Wonderful Life is my all-time fav!
