We took a road trip yesterday, a little change of scenery for us and Katelyn…..we drove to Jackson to go to the zoo! It was also a chance for Kathryn to see my youngest child that lives in Jackson, her brother David. Yes, it’s lovely weather here in Mississippi in the middle of July, very hot and muggy! We didn’t stay all day, just a couple of hours. But we had a fun time and if you care to see pictures, click below…….

The orangutans weren’t very cooperative in showing off for us, they just sorta sat on top of their little platform. It must have been too hot for them too!

The giraffes were here favorite and I believe ours too.

If we let her out to walk, she’d run up to a cage and just stare at the animal and was a bit intrigued because it was all new to her……a leopard

and pink flamingos

Uncle David now works at the zoo so he was able to eat lunch with us during his break and walk around for just a bit with us.

Saw the giraffes one more time on the way out

We even came home with a soft giraffe!

Kathryn really wanted a Krispy Kreme donut when we passed by one, they don’t have them where she lives and she remembers stopping to get them hot when they were in college a lot! The “hot” sign wasn’t out but that didn’t matter……when ordering she saw an ad they had for summertime drinks called chillers. So we decided to split one, the mocha dream and OH MY, was it good! I could have had this whole thing entirely by myself!

Try one if you get the chance!
(p.s……after I posted this I went to look for these chiller drinks and I think I didn’t want to know the sugar, fat and calories that are in them! That just took the fun right out of it)

It was a fun day!

Those pictures are ADORABLE! All three of my little ones love the zoo so much that we got an annual pass. We haven’t been in a while, as it rained for 31 of 36 days over the past several weeks. Now it is just HOT. They are open at 7:30am for a while, so we may try going early:-)

This looks like such a fun day. I used to love taking my kids to the zoo, and we always had a family pass. They are still up for going, I guess I need to plan an outing. The giraffes are my very favorite animals:)

I am so glad that you clarified that your son worked at the zoo. I had to laugh when I started reading and you said,

“…we drove to Jackson to go to the zoo! It was also a chance for Kathryn to see my youngest, her brother David.”

Hee hee! I wondered to myself if he lives there, or works there. Just a brother joke ya know.

It is so funny that you asked me what I thought about White Chocolate Moments. Just today I started a post about updating my reading list, and I wrote the beginnings of a review on that book. I am very disappointed in it. I have read Lori Wick before and I think I enjoyed her writing. But this one feels like it is written for a 6th grader. I feel very unintelligent while I’m reading it. There is nothing wrong with it. It just seems written below my level of understanding and interest. I will try to finish it. I am half way through. But if I can’t finish it, I will let it go.

Well splitting one of those Chillers can’t be all that bad. And I love the pic of Katelyn and the stuffed giraffe – so sweet!

The zoo can be so much fun (if it’s not 120 degrees 🙂 )

Oh, my!! I’ve never had one of those drinks before, but I know just where to get one!! When I go visit Mandalyn, the Krispy Kreme is just down the road! 🙂 And, it’s been years! since I went to the Jackson Zoo. May have to make that something to see again if we’re back down there.

I’ve been to that zoo–about 5 years ago or so. It’s small, but nice. We are in Jackson so often with quizzing. We enjoy it so much. Wish we had krispy kreme here.

What a fun day! And, I just want to say that you are amazing! How do you come up with a song title for every post?

  16. Debi Says:

Sounds like a positively delightful afternoon!

And I’ve just got to say again…every time I see a picture of you with your grandbabies, I swear you look like you should be their mama, not their grandma!

  17. Susanne Says:

Love the pic where she’s clutching the stuffy giraffe in the car. Too sweet!

We love the giraffes too. Last time we went to the zoo in our area, they just had a new baby giraffe. So fun watching him hobble around getting past his long legs.

  18. Stacy (the other one) Says:

I love the picture of her with her stuffed giraffe. Can she get any sweeter?

  19. Elizabeth Says:

Cute. Looks like she loves her new giraffe! I bet that was a nice break from work for David.
