And because I don’t want to end the day with a sad book excerpt, like I put in the post below………..I give you another one that I had copied and kept! It’s in that same pile of stuff I’m going through. This is from one of the Miss Julia books by Ann B. Ross, they are very light and funny reads.

As I turned to leave, Little Lloyd called out, Miss Julia, you might better bring back a mattock too. This ground is pretty hard. I waved, not too sure what a mattock was, but sure that someone at the hardware store would know. I heard Lillian caution Little Lloyd against cutting any roots, as she began hacking at the daylily bed with the hoe.
I left them to it, and drove to Prince’s Hardware. It was not my favorite place to shop since I didn’t know one thing from another in it. But it was far and away better than one of those huge sprawling things outside of town where you had to dodge some old man wanting to hug you and where you couldn’t find anything or anybody to help you. Give me a business that’s family-owned and operated anytime. And I’m talking about a local family, not one that lives in Arkansas
.”

I thought that was hilarious and SO very true! I love Walmart but many days you can’t find things in there, much less anyone to help you, and if you ask, they have no clue! I got a giggle from it!

I have the funniest story to tell you about Walmart. About two years ago, my husband had made a grocery list of everything he needed and at the top was “goatmeal” I figured it was something for his roses since I knew they needed some kind of “meal” for their food. So I went to the outdoor section and looked for a good long time. I finally found a girl who worked there, and asked her about it. She took me to a shelf where the plant food was, and there was (I can’t remember specifics now, you’ll understand in just a minute…) bags of “????meal” there, and she told me that they must be out, but they’ll be getting some soon, to check back. So I did the rest of my shopping, came home and told dh what she said about his goatmeal. He just broke out into laughter. I looked at him, and said what? He said, I wrote that down that way, because we had just been joking about the OATMEAL in the pantry and we all called it goatmeal. (We did!! 🙂 ) He was out of his oatmeal for breakfast!! And the girl at Walmart didn’t even know they did not sell Goatmeal. It doesn’t exist (as far as I know.) Anyway, we had a good laugh, at that girl and me, and I didn’t trust Walmart employees after that!! 🙂

I remember reading that passage and laughing too. I love Walmart too, but I am getting to where I’m trying not to go too often. For various and sundry reasons.

Loved Coach J’s story about the “goat meal” 🙂

I hate Wal-Mart, but I love their prices. I only go early Sunday mornings. I always buy the canned veggies for Maggie and Teddy there, plus other things that are so much less expensive than Kroger or Publix. Shelby gets mad when I don’t shop at Publix (she works there), but I won’t pay their high prices when I can get the same things for so much less.

Lauren – Miss Julia books are great!
