Do you have a lot of light bulbs in your house? I went around and counted 44 fixtures or lamps in our house that use regular light bulbs…..I did NOT count fluorescent bulbs, outside lights, chandeliers that use smaller bulbs and ooh, I forgot to add the recessed fixtures that I think use regular bulbs too! I’m sure I have well over 55 places in my house that need lights. If Don ever goes to the store with me when we run out, you know, like having a “date” to Walmart, 😆 he tends to buy boxes and boxes of light bulbs. He doesn’t want to run out again anytime soon. I think we usually get anywhere from 20-40 boxes at a time of different watt bulbs; we use 60 the most but have places that need 40, 75 or 100 watts. And when we do have lights burn out, they tend to go out in batches not just one bulb at a time. I finally ran out of 60 watt bulbs last week but still have 6+ boxes of higher wattages left. So I bought some of the kind that are supposed to last 5-6 years…..you might have seen them before:

They cost a lot more than buying those cheap boxes of generic bulbs at Walmart, I think 3 of these ran about $7.50 or 8. I might want to eventually replace all our bulbs with these. If they work and do actually last 5 years I think it might be worth the cost and would take away the hassle of changing bulbs so often! I’ve never used them before so I don’t know how they compare to a regular incandescent bulb. Do they put out the same amount of light, the same kind of light? And, have any of you used them before?
Inquiring minds want to know!

We gradually switched over to those kind over the past few years. They are bright! Anyway, our oldest have to be about 5 years old (maybe older), because I know we moved some here with us from Tennessee. To the best of my knowledge, none of them have burned out yet.

I haven’t tried them, but my dad is gradually switching everything over to them. I have fallen in love with the way the Reveal light bulb casts light (much more natural), so I don’t know if I’ll switch over or not.

Where on earth do you store 40 BOXES of light bulbs when you come home from the store with them?! Wowzers 🙂

I’d have to stop and count, but I know we won’t have as many as you do, your house is so much larger than ours. I’ve been trying to slowly replace our regular bulbs with those energy saver ones for a while now. I think I’ve showed you before here, in our den lamps, which ones have those and which ones have regular light. I think the energy saver ones put out less light and they take a second to click on. Or maybe it’s just these lamps. If you’re wanting to buy more of those, go with me to Sam’s and we’ll get them there. More of them, but cheaper per bulb. Those things are expensive. But I haven’t had one burn out yet. Some of these are 2-3 years old, probably. I need to work on switching them out in the rest of the house, where I can. Not sure about chandeliers, ceiling fan lights, etc. I know they won’t work in the bathrooms.

    🙂

I’ve seen them and have been wanting to try them….hmmmm i think we just may have to try them now!

hope you’re having a great week!

I like them because they are ‘suppossed’ to save energy costs. The delay doesn’t bother me, it’s basically just like a fluro bulb. But when you do switch over, you won’t need to buy that much in bulk anymore. I think you and I rival on the over 40 bulbs in the house. Me too!

Ok, are you bored? You stopped and counted your lightbulbs?? You silly girl! I honestly can tell you I know we have 3 because everytime I turn on the living room light one of those 3 blow. They can’t hold the new fangled ones or that’s what I would be using 🙂 We really like the energy smart blubs and use them where we can.

We bought a bunch over 10 years ago, and the first one just went out a couple of weeks ago. I don’t notice the difference in light anymore. I have heard a few people say theirs burned out faster than expected, but I haven’t had that experience. I love them:-)

I have never used them but I might now since I’ve read the comments on them!!

I hope you don’t mind, but I tagged you on my blog!!

    God Bless!

I have tried these bulbs, but only recently. They are in our stair well. I bought them just so my husband wouldn’t have to change them out so often. I sure hope they work, because by hubby doesn’t like heights very much and our stairwell is a booger to change lights in. Thanks so much for that recipe–if I can find some bouillion (sp?)without msg, I will try it. And thanks for the Smoky info.–I haven’t had a chance to look at it yet, but I will. It was so thoughtful of you to do that for me. Thanks for your prayers for Grandmother–she came through surgery fine and is doing well.

“You give me hope to carry on. You light up my days, and fill my night.” I am OUT of lightbulbs. Hopefully, no lights go out soon. I need to get some of those that the multiple power levels. I probably need another lamp for my living room, too. I hate apartments with no overhead lighting…SO annoying.

My hubby, the electrician, switched every bulb (almost, not the recessed ones!) in our house to these kind as soon as he found them. (Years ago.) They do last longer, and before they are getting ready to go out, (I mean several months), you’ll notice a pause between you cutting on the lights, and them actually coming on. Then days (maybe a month) before they go out, they look like a strobe light when the switch is turned on. That’s when I get too tired of waiting, so I get hubby to go ahead and change them. They are lots better! Good choice.

My husband buys a lot of light bulbs too – albeit not 40 boxes! I’ve wondered about the energy saver ones – perhaps we’ll try some. I wonder if they have ones for 3-way sockets?
