Tuesday I decided to go to a nearby town to return a few items and do a little shopping. The closest mall to me is about 30 miles away and I haven’t been in a while but after being there yesterday and seeing a few stores that had closed, I think I decided to just wait and shop more when I’m in Jackson….bigger city, more stores, better malls, etc. But it was an outing, I made my returns and it was something different to do that day. When I got home I put away some of the things I got and then went upstairs to check my email. I hadn’t been in the room long when I heard a loud noise coming from downstairs, maybe in the kitchen under the room I was in and it sounded like someone had dropped stuff on the floor or was leaning on the door trying to get it open! I’m just a naturally scared, skittish person to start with but when there’s noises involved I don’t do well at all. I hoped it was Don but didn’t hear him say anything so I pulled my cell phone out and dialed him. When he answered I almost whispered, “Where are you”; he tells me he’s in the middle of a farmer’s field like 30+ miles from home. I lost it then, got very teary and told him, “there’s somebody in the house”.

I know he gets sick of dealing with me sometimes! I did NOT want to go downstairs to investigate by myself, I just wanted him to be here. The room I was in has a walk through place to go into an attic type room and then a way to get outdoors from there so I did that while on the phone with him. Got the key out of the door downstairs and went outside and he told me to go get the neighbor to go through the house with me. She’s a girl and I’m thinking, what can 2 girls do if there is someone in the house! Then he told me to go check all the other outside doors to see if they’re locked and said if they were I was probably fine (easy for him to say!). They were locked but I was hesitant to go back in but about that time the neighbor’s husband drove up so I got him to go through the house with me. We just did a quick look through, saw nothing unusual and I also looked for something that might have dropped on the floor and made the noise. But there was nothing! He leaves and by this time it’s about 4 and I realize I have just about enough time to watch a movie I taped Monday night before it gets dark! Key for me because if the movie is the least bit scary or suspenseful, I don’t watch it in the dark! Yeah, I’m a fun person! 😆 I did just barely finish the movie before dark and I had read the book so I knew what to expect but I was still jumpy from the loud noise earlier. Don comes in a little later and we went out to eat supper but when we get home I notice that the light fixture in the kitchen is hanging partially open. (hubby had fixed it that morning because one of the fluorescent bulbs was not screwed in tight enough) He then tells me that if that fixture had opened up that afternoon that it was probably what I heard. That didn’t seem like it would be it to me but he told me to go upstairs and he would let it drop so it would be like it was when we found it and I listened—it made the same noise! It only fell halfway open but swung back and hit the ceiling! Kinda hard to explain but this is what the fixture is supposed to look like:

And this is how we found it later…..that part swinging freely has a ridge to hook back onto the right hand side but hubby said he probably didn’t get it tight so when I was upstairs right over it, it finally fell off and when it did, the part up on the left still attached hit the ceiling a couple of times and banged against the ceiling; which was the floor of the room I was in. He let it drop for me to hear it and I had to admit that was probably it.

It probably wasn’t such a good idea that I watched a suspenseful movie right after the noise incident….I woke up scared during the night after having bad dreams about someone being in my house, moving stuff around in every room I went in so that I’d think I was losing my mind! Sound familiar Stacy? (that was in the book I just finished and watched the movie about, gee my mind is way too overactive I guess!)
I hope tonight I sleep better! There were no bumps in the day today and I’m off to bed soon!

Yeah, I wouldn’t want to watch a scary movie right after that! Yikes! Hope you get some rest!

Well. It would have scared the beejeezers out of me too. We’re cut from the same cloth, both a bit scaredish and skittish. 🙂 I hear noises all the time when I’m home alone, and it’s always worse after dark. I won’t watch movies like that by myself either, especially after dark. I would have totally been the same way.

Hope you got a good nights sleep last night!

That would have scared me to death too! Glad your neighbor was gracious enough to come in and have a look with you!

I am with you about hearing noises and getting scared. I get all jumpy and spooked. My “jumpy-ness” is precisely why my husband had a cell. phone.

    Hi Gail,
Once I was upstairs and someone broke into our house I could hear them downstairs walking around. So I called dh on the cell phone and he told me go down there and see if they are taking the TV. LOL Men.
By the time the police got here they were gone.
By the way no they didn’t take the tv. LOL
HI just post the oatmeal recipe you wanted.
    Hugs,
    Elizabeth
