One night recently we were looking for a movie to rent; had several on the list and had trouble deciding but finally settled on
“Akeelah and the Bee” . I had wanted to see it when it came out at the theater but missed it. I loved this movie! It was a heartwarming story and feel good kind of movie. Akeelah is an eleven year old little girl living in South Los Angeles with a gift for words. Her father is dead, her mom ignores her and her brother is running with the wrong crowd. Her environment isn’t the best and could keep her from making something better for herself.
I thought the young girl that played this part was so adorable and did such a wonderful job in the role. Laurence Fishburne was excellent too. Ever since I had a child that participated in spelling bees, I have been interested in them and enjoy watching it on tv. I’ve helped coach kids at the school and my own but never did I help them like one method that was used in this movie! You’ll have to see it; I fell way short in my abilities!
If you’re looking for a good movie to rent, I highly recommend “Akeelah and the Bee”. I think it did have some bad language in it toward the beginning but seems to be a pretty good family movie. Don commented after it was over that it was a good movie to have the captions on for! So you can see all those words being spelled, incredible! Try it……..I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.

I’ve been wanting to see this. When I visited my parents we tried to rent it twice but it was out both times! I’ll see it sometime but don’t know when…I have GOT to study more. I hate studying and am tired of it. Such is my next 8 months of life!

Wasn’t this movie wonderful! I just loved it! And so did my tweeny daughter. It did have a little language in the beginning but that was just to establish her home life and it did not continue throughout the show. It was actually rated “G” here in Canada.

This is great. We just got this movie from Netflix this week and plan to watch it tonight. I’ve heard nothing but wonderful things about it and can’t wait to see it!

Thank you again for visiting me. Hope you’ll visit again soon.
