Yesterday hubby called D and arranged for him to pick up parts for him in Arkansas somewhere and deliver them back to a job in the delta (this is the 2nd time this week he’s used him to run parts) He wanted D to be in Arkansas by 8:30 this morning so that meant he had to leave his apartment really early to be there. I had told him last night if it would help, that he could come up here and spend the night and sleep about an hour later than if he stayed at his apartment. But he didn’t think he’d do that & when we got in from the movie & he wasn’t here, I figured he would just leave from his place in Clinton. (click below for rest of the story)

This morning D called my cell phone around 8:30 so I thought he was calling to get some directions. He chatted a minute and then asked me if I had seen the note he left me in the kitchen, “note, what note, how did you leave me a note at my house when your apartment is 80 something miles away from me?” He said, “didn’t you hear me come in about 3 something this morning”, NO I DID NOT!! He had come here after all, unlocked the door, came in the house and puttered around and then went upstairs to his room to sleep for a couple of hours, then got up again and left the house by 6 this morning! AND, I heard none of this, NONE! I always thought that if someone were to break in my house, I would wake up and hear it. Now he didn’t break in but he did have to undo the deadbolt and lock and was in the kitchen and then on the stairs that creak and still I heard nothing! Hubby did, he woke up and thought someone was getting in and said he noticed I was sleeping away. He heard him leave again this morning. I had been in the kitchen this morning too and had never seen the note til he called. Hubby says I’m losing it! I think I just must sleep harder when I know he’s on guard and on watch for me 😆 If he’s not here, I usually don’t sleep much at all. The only thing I noticed this morning was, when I went upstairs I saw that the ceiling fan was running in D’s room and I thought to myself, “that’s odd, hubby never turns the fan on in here!” So that should have told me then that D had been there because he runs the fan full blast when he’s here; Big D can’t stand the ceiling fan and will not turn it on if it’s his choice.
It’s a little unnerving to realize that someone came in and went all around your house and you had no knowledge of it and never heard it! I’m glad that the person that came into my house in the still of the night was one of my kids!

Oh that would totally freak me out. Like you said, it’s not a bad thing but thinking about it afterwards would give me pause. Maybe after all these years D has perfected his technique for sneaking in late at night? Even the best kids figure out how to keep from rousing mama and papa bear, out of kindness if nothing else. 🙂

I missed you for SPF this week 🙂 Maybe next week?

That boy, he’s sneaky! It’s just like him to come in and sleep for a couple of hours and then leave. Ah youth, I miss it so!!! hahaha

That would totally unnerve me too. We have a much smaller house and we’ve not heard you guys leave before, and E too, so I know how you feel. I’m like – I thought one of us would wake up if someone came in or out of the front door. Like a burglar or something! Oh well, I guess we all sleep a lot sounder than we realize. 🙂

Glad D is able to help out, what a good son he is!

That would really freak me out! Sometimes, I think that I would know if someone were in the house, but then I realize that my ceiling fan is so loud I wouldn’t. Scarey thought! I think that if we know someone else has our back, we relax more. I hardly sleep when I’m here alone!
