Misty watercolor memories…………
A few days ago, the guys were playing golf again (surprise, surprise) and Stacy & I went shopping again for a little while….another huge surprise! But we also drove around some and took a few photos, some of things out of our past. I got a couple of the jr high/high school I attended and we got some of the old house that we lived in during that time. It looks sorta the same but did have some changes to it and it looks more run down than before.
Click below for the shots:

This first shot is one that Stacy had from a long time ago, from when we were kids and lived in it. It had a carport (no door), big tree out front, and my dad’s roses in that front bed up by the sidewalk. He really took a lot of time with those, tending them and making them grow. The 2 windows on the front porch behind the roses are the dining room and living room, which didn’t get used a lot! Kitchen/breakfast area & laundry room are right inside the carport door, which you can’t see in this shot. The 2 smaller windows on the far side of the house were bedrooms, first one was Suzanne’s and the one on the end was mine; it was a corner room so it had another window around the corner of the house also. Now I think those were kind of funny shaped windows. Stacy’s room was in the middle of house, with a window on that far side you can’t see. Parent’s bedroom/bath was on back of the house as was a big den with a sliding glass door…..that room was used a lot. Sort of a typical family kind of home I guess.
our house way back when

This is one of the pictures we took on Saturday….the big tree out front was gone, a garage door is now there instead of the carport, and……..the roses are gone! No bed even, just some white looking rocks or stones! We didn’t get out of the car, but maybe should have, to take the shots but it felt funny taking pictures of someone else’s house.
6/2006 shot of house

Here is that shot but a little more zoomed in:

You can’t really tell from these how much things have changed: front door didn’t look in good shape at all, the fence around the house next door was practically falling down and the neighborhood doesn’t look so good anymore. But it brings back memories to go and see these things later in life.

Great post! You know, when I was really little (probably when you were there), my bedroom was in the back. But after you and Suzie went off to college, I got to move up front. That first window by the front door was my bedroom for most of my life. I have pictures of that room, and I can remember just what it looked like. I don’t ever remember being in the back, because I was really little! I’ve just seen pictures of me on a bed in that room when I was like 3 or 4 or 5.

I agree, it looked pretty bad, and I was sad to see those trees gone (I have pictures of Daddy watering them right after he planted them, they were tiny!) and his roses. I loved those roses. He worked and worked on them and they were always gorgeous. Dodie used to cut me one and have in my room for me as a surprise when I came home from school. I hate that they are gone and that it all looks so run down. But, things do change and I imagine it’s par for the course.

Glad you posted this! (And now I have that Barbra Streisand song running through my head, agh!) 🙂
