I have been wanting to rent “In Good Company” for several weeks now, mostly because every time we went to Blockbuster to rent a movie, this one was always completely out. I didn’t hear much about it when it was on at the theatre, so we didn’t really know what to expect.
Tim and I both really enjoyed it though, although I probably liked it more than he did, as it’s my kind of movie – about people, relationships, lots of dialogue.
Basic plot – Dennis Quaid is in his early 50’s and works as the boss of ad sales group at a popular sports magazine. His company is bought out by a huge conglomerate, and his new boss is a 20’s something corporate ladder climber, played wonderfully by Topher Grace. Throw in the fact that Quaid’s wife (Marg Helgenberger from CSI) suddenly discovers she is pregnant, and the fact that his oldest daughter (Scarlett Johannsen) wants to transfer to pricey NYU, and Quaid is in a pickle to keep a high paying job. Plus, once his daughter moves to the city, she strikes up a relationship with Topher Grace's character - her dad's boss. Oh my!
I loved all the interaction between Quaid and Grace, and thought it really made the movie. I give this one a 7 out of 10, a good rental if you’re looking for a grown-up movie about people, jobs and relationships.
