DVD - The Village
We finally got around to seeing the latest M Night Shaymalan (sp??) movie, as we have watched all of his others. While it wasn't a total waste of time, neither Tim nor I thought it was a great movie. It was not (thankfully) as scary as I thought it would be, so I was able to watch it, but I really thought the plot was a bit weak. When I asked Tim to rate it, he said he would give it a 4.5 out of 10, that it was an ok/average movie. I would probably give it a 4 out of 10. It was a decent rental, but definitely not one we would ever buy.
I will refrain from giving a synopsis of the film, as it might give something away. Hard to really explain much about it without letting something slip! :)

Excellent movie. Well conceived, well written, and well told - and the score was fantastic. The story had good character development and interaction. It wasn't so much a thriller as a character movie. It's a story about a group of people wrestling with their fears and secrets, and the choices and consequences they face in that struggle. Great setting for such a piece - 19th century rural America and mythical forest creatures! |
